Bara Imambara

One of Lucknow’s most cherished attractions is the Bara Imambara. It is known for its fine maze, locally called Bhul Bhulaiya, which is situated on the palace's upper floor. It is said that there are 1024 ways to enter the maze, but only two ways to exit! It was originally named Asfi Imambara, after the Nawab of Lucknow (who had it built). The Imambara is built in a distinctive design. No wood or metal was used in the construction of this palace. Bara Imambara is said to be the world's largest monument not supported by pillars

Chota Imambara

This too is a historical spot built by Muhammad Ali Shah, the Nawab of Awadh in 1838. The Chota Imambara is an architectural marvel and its unique features are the chandeliers that adorn the structure -thereby goes the name as the Palace of Lights. Bought by the Nawab from Belgium these chandeliers are lit up during special festivals like Muharram.

Rumi Darwaza

The Rumi Darwaza is a gateway between the Bara Imambara and the Chota Imambara. It is one of the few remaining examples of Awadhi architecture featuring a huge gateway that is sixty feet tall.

British Residency

Chattar Manzil
